1961 Jaguar Donated to the American Cancer Society

This week we are revisiting a beautiful 1961 Jaguar Mark IX donated to American Cancer Society.  This classic Jaguar came to us from a generous donor in Laguna Beach, California.  You can see from the picture that this car lived a privileged life in sunny southern California.

With just over 27,000 miles, this car remained in great running shape and the owner even treated to a new engine back in the early 1990s.  Due to the donor taking great care of this car, it has held its value over the last 56 years.  In turn, this car will help support individuals and families affected by cancer, as a donation to the American Cancer Society.

Jaguar produced this luxury saloon car, the Mark IX, from 1959 to 1961.  The Mark IX is the culmination of updates to its predecessor the Mark XIII.  While much of the body is traditional, in this Jag you can find a 3.8 L twin-cam straight-six engine.  In this fabled Jaguar, engine horsepower increased to 220 hp.  Other modern amenities include disc brakes and a Borg-Warner three-speed automatic transmission box.

This model Jaguar became popularized as a ceremonial car for state dignitaries.  The Mark IX became the official motorcar for Charles de Gaulle, the Queen of England and even the Nigerian government.

Giving Tuesday, Car Donation to Make a Difference

Giving Tuesday, Car Donation to Make a Difference

Giving Tuesday (#givingtuesday on social media), donate your car to make a difference this charitable season.

It is that time of year again where we hear bells ringing outside of our local grocery stores and shopping centers. The holiday season brings out a spirit in us that makes us want to help out the community and others in need.  There are plenty of ways one can contribute to their charity of choice.  This Giving Tuesday, we’d like you to take a minute to consider donating a car as a great way to support your favorite charity.  Much to our pleasure, Car Donation Wizard receives almost double the amount of donations from Thanksgiving to Christmas than it does in an average month. This rise in car donations coincides with a movement called “Giving Tuesday”.

A Porsche for The American Cancer Society

We have recently taken in a donated 1999 Porsche Boxster with only 23,553 miles for the American Cancer Society’s Cars For a Cure® Vehicle Donation Program. John and Ann of California were the original owners, and it was garaged for most of that time. We had the pleasure to speak with John about his donation. When asked why they chose the American Cancer Society, John responded,

“My Wife and I support a several causes which include higher education and health care. We are very active with hospitals in particular. We liked the idea that the American Cancer Society had more money going back to them rather than the lower percentages that we saw while doing research. American Cancer Society is an excellent cause, so it was an easy decision. We had talked about the different charities back and forth, and we felt that this car was a special car and should go to a special charity. It seemed like the perfect fit.”

The Porsche is their first vehicle donation to the American Cancer Society. John said he had regretted not knowing about the American Cancer Society’s vehicle donation program sooner. John spoke very highly of the effortless donation process; the representatives they spoke to were very pleasant and the couple are happy with the outcome.

When asked if they would donate a vehicle to the American Cancer Society again in the future and he said “Oh yes I would! It is now at the top of my list if I do it again in the future!”
