Veterans Day is annually observed on November 11, a day dedicated to honoring America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.

Originally called Armistice Day, November 11 was considered the end of “the war to end all wars” and became an official holiday in 1938 to honor World War I veterans. Following World War II and the Korean War, veterans service organizations urged Congress to change the word “Armistice” to “Veterans” so the day could honor veterans who served in all wars.
