Take a look at this month’s vehicle donation shout-out, a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. This vehicle was generously donated to the American Cancer Society through the Cars for a Cure Vehicle Donation Program. Donating your car to ACS will help fund lifesaving cancer research, education, advocacy, and free patient service programs.
The donor shared why the American Cancer Society is so important to him and why donating to them was so special for him and his family:
In 2014 our first grandchild was born. We decided that having a family van that would be easy to install good car seat into would be a wonderful thing. I became Grandpa and my wife, Nana. Since we bought the van it has been a fun vehicle eventually transporting all three of our grandkids on all sorts of fun trips and adventures. Since this was my wife’s car it quickly became called The NanaVan.
This year, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. My doctors, both my General Practitioner and my Urologist were alerted because of my climbing PSA scores. They were finally able to locate and biopsy the small tumor in my prostate and it was a very aggressive type of malignant cancer. Through their diligence it was detected prior to any movement through my bones or any other place in my body. I am currently in the middle of my beam radiation and hormone treatments. My PSA numbers are dropping like a rock and my prognosis is great.
My wife and I decided that the NanaVan should be replaced with a newer vehicle. We have been blessed in our lives with a family member giving their older cars to us and we liked the idea of donating our well loved NanaVan. We weren’t sure who to donate it to but then Nana found out that the American Cancer Society accepted car donations. Every Friday when I leave my radiation treatments, I wish the staff a great weekend and then say to them, “Thanks for saving my life.” With the donation of this well loved car my wife and I hope that the American Cancer Society can continue its work to fight cancer. I am the recipient of the work you have done up until now. So I will close by saying simply…Thanks for saving my life!
