1986 Porsche 944 Donated to NSAL

Porsche is known for making sleek and speedy sports cars, but did you know they can also support the missions of your favorite charities? The focus of this post, an ’86 Porsche 944 Turbo, helped the largest no-kill shelter in North America, the North Shore Animal League. We can tell you all about this car, and how vehicle donations support this incredible charity.

The Car: Porsche 944 Turbo

The 944 is the fourth Porsche model line, sandwiched between the 924 and the 911. Of course, the major mechanical difference between the 924 and 944 was found under the hood. The 944 featured a 2.5-litre in-line four-cylinder engine that made it a “true” Porsche.

The features of this model appealed to more than just motorheads. The first vehicle sold in the US with a passenger airbag included as standard equipment? You guessed it: the Porsche 944. There’s a need for safety with all that speed, even when most contemporary models charged extra for a steering wheel airbag.

The Charity: North Shore Animal League

North Shore Animal League Car Donation

The North Shore Animal League is the largest no-kill shelter in the world, and every year they place around 18,000 animals in loving homes. They’ve been doing incredible work since 1944: over 1,000,000 animals’ lives have been saved by North Shore Animal League! They are celebrating their 75th anniversary in 2019 as the leaders of the no-kill movement.

The North Shore Animal League not only rescues animals but provides much-needed care to prepare rescues for adoption. In only one year, their staff performed over 85,000 exams and vaccinated over 65,000 animals.

They also focus on education and have reached over 3,000,000 students with their Mutt-i-grees program. This program focuses on social and emotional learning, something critical that is often not highlighted in schools.

They rely on the support of generous donors and volunteers to help feed and care for the animals in their care.

The Value of Vehicle Donations

Vehicle donations are an unexpected but incredible way to support the work of your favorite charities. With our donation program, we sell donated vehicles at auction, and the proceeds go directly to the charity.

Transparency is key. Car Donation Wizard has the highest returns of any car donation program out there. On average, between 75-80% of the gross proceeds go to support your charity. We work hard to make sure that our costs say low, and the sale prices for vehicle donations are high.

A Special KISS Motorcycle Donation to NSAL

Usually on our vehicle stories, we tell you about the history of an interesting donation. This North Shore Animal League motorcycle donation comes with a story – and unique design – of its own!

Custom art on the side of this Kawasaki North Shore Animal League motorcycle donation.

In the words of the generous donor:

“Being a passionate KISS fan since 1976, it only made sense my motorcycle reflected this. I was quite satisfied with my own artwork and pinstripes on the tank and fenders, and the flashing red lights that went with the paint.

However, life and riding became much more exciting on September 29, 2007, when Ace Frehley pulled into Moroneys Harley Davidson, shortly after I dropped it off for service! I introduced myself, showed him the bike, and the artwork. He agreed to sign the back fender, where the pinstripes reflected his makeup.

Flash forward to June 2017, I brought the front fender, with Peter Criss’ makeup in pinstripes, to NYC, where he signed it. I was a proud and happy woman wandering the streets of Manhattan holding the front fender of a motorcycle. So, two out of four isn’t bad, I guess. It’s been a fantastic adventurous chapter in my life, riding this bike.”

Peter Criss, better known as the Catman and drummer of the rock band KISS, may have been this creative donor’s inspiration for supporting the North Shore Animal League.

Car Donation Wizard Gives Back to the North Shore Animal League

To celebrate the amazing milestone of raising 30 million dollars for charitable organizations through vehicle donations, Car Donation Wizard has decided to sponsor the Nursery Program at the North Shore Animal League.

North Shore Animal League America is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. They rescue and adopt pets all over the country into loving homes. North Shore Animal League America rescues, nurtures and adopts almost 20,000 dogs, cats, kittens and puppies into loving homes each year—saving close to 1,000,000 animals to date.

Their Sponsorship Nursery is filled each day with orphaned and newborn puppies and kittens. A great deal of their care requires being hand-fed from a bottle, nurtured until they are healthy and strong enough to be placed for adoption. The Animal League is often asked by other shelters to lend its support when pregnant mothers are scheduled for destruction unless they step in and protect them. By supporting the Animal League’s Sponsorship Nursery, we are helping care for newborn animals that are in need, ensuring that puppies and kittens can receive a chance at life.

Stories of some of the animals in the nursery can be found on the North Shore Animal League America’s website, where you can read their stories, see pictures, videos and sponsor these animals in need. Take for example, Angel, a beautiful 1 ½ year old Yellow Labrador Retriever and her five newborn puppies. They were in a small, overcrowded shelter and Angel was suffering from heartworm. They were at great risk of being destroyed. Thanks to the supporters of North Shore, they were rescued and placed in the Nursery Program. They have a safe, quiet place for Angel to care for her young.

Working with vehicle donations, the employees here at ARS can see what a difference one donation can make. Which is why whenever we have a chance, we like to do our part and donate either our time or money, just like our donors do. North Shore Animal League America lets us know how our resources are being used and which animals are in need and we’re proud to be a sponsor.
