Our last donor story featured a 2000 Chevrolet Venture that allowed a family to travel across the United States. This week, we’re taking a look at a 1998 Ford Expedition that was donated to Habitat for Humanity through the Cars for Homes program. The donor decided to donate her late husband’s truck to Habitat for Humanity, as he was a carpenter who took pride in helping others with their homes. Read her story below!
Habitat for Humanity Vehicle Donation
It was a privilege for me to donate my late husband’s work truck to Habitat for Humanity. How fitting that the proceeds will be used toward the building and construction of homes for families in need. John was a self-employed finish carpenter. Many referred to him as a Master Carpenter. He worked hard in all fields of carpentry from the time he was in high school until his mid 70s when he developed early on-set Alzheimer’s. He was a kind, caring, hard-working Christian who never lingered on a job or took advantage of his customers. His calendar was filled with referrals and repeat customers.

The truck’s back seat was removed to make the interior a flat-bed to haul milk-crates filled with power tools, building material, cabinets, and more for daily jobs. The workhorse remains in great running condition with like-new tires, air suspension, a rack on the roof, and equipped to tow. In the seven years John has been gone, I have used the truck for many purposes — hauling church tables and chairs to picnics, transporting donated items to other charitable organizations and wonderful local camping trips. John would be happy to know the vehicle he relied on for so many years will serve as an asset for the Habitat community.
