Vehicle donation can be a great way to get rid of that old clunker that has been sitting in your garage and also help out one of your favorite non-profit organizations. In turn you can also qualify for a tax break. In order to donate smart, follow these three steps before deciding where to donate a car to.

  • Make sure the charity that your going to be donating to is 501(c)3 recognized.
  • Ask whether there are any expenses that will be passed to you such as: towing and other miscellaneous fees. Your donation should cover such cost.
  • Never send or hand out a blank title to a vehicle. Always transfer your title to the charity or the charity’s authorized agent to avoid losses and release your liability.

If you cant verify any of this information then that organization is probably not in your best interest.
