Today’s car donation spotlight features a 2013 Subaru Outback that was donated to Special Olympics. This Subaru Outback has been apart of the donor’s family for a very long time. After 12 years, they decided to donate the car to Special Olympics, an organization very close to the families’ heart.
Making a Difference
The donor shares the story of their vehicle over the years and why they decided to donate to this organization:
The old car had gone past 12 years, high miles and great travels. It had been very reliable and had so many long road trips, and short hops. It had taken our kids and some friends on the various teams to Special Olympics games, playoffs, and state finals. It transported kids and friends in a carpool sort of arrangement when they both attended the same alternative Special Ed. school. That was 35 miles one way, in all weather for each school year. Our Subaru has a wonderful navigation system, leather interior…everything needed to be a reliable shuttle to events.
Though it remained completely safe and operated well, we really needed a different car to rely on for moving us around, including kids and aging relatives. Something a little higher, and easier to get in and out of. We were very fortunate to get great financing on that car, so the trade value on our old car was less important than what it might bring to Special Olympics. We try to donate a couple times each year, to do what we can.
By donating our trusty older car, we were able to pass along some support to Special Olympics despite having a new monthly car payment to handle. We are grateful for everything Special Olympics does, and for being able to donate our beloved car to help support them. It seems like a win-win: Special Olympics gets a donation, and someone can get our old car – and we hope they enjoy it as we did.
Does your vehicle have a special story? Don’t forget to share it with us! We love featuring our donor stories and selfies on our Facebook and Instagram pages. Your car may also be featured on our Hall of Fame page.
