This week’s car donation is a 2009 Mazda 5 donated to Twin Cities HFH through their Cars for Homes Program. Cars for Homes makes it easy for you to donate your car to a good cause. We bought this vehicle when our youngest was a baby. He is now 16! We already had a minivan, but we wanted our second vehicle to fit our entire family (4 kids). Our family names our vehicles, and our oldest son chose the name Flare for this car because it was red. We loved this car with its manual transmission and sunroof. All four of our boys learned to drive a stick shift in this car, and they all now enjoy driving that type of car.
This car was mostly my husband’s commuter vehicle, but it has also been on a few adventures. It has gone down to San Antonio, Texas and on an East Coast trip to Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. When you fold down the rear two seats, it can hold plenty of luggage and camping gear!
We chose Habitat for Humanity because it is a charity with a positive reputation. A home in our neighborhood was fixed up by Habitat and now has a family living in it. My husband has done occasional volunteer work. We wanted our donation to help families find forever homes.
