This week’s car donation story features a 2004 Toyota Camry that was donated to Habitat for Humanity of Spokane through the Cars for Homes Program. Your car donation will help build homes in your community and foster stability in the lives of new homeowners.
In 2012, this donor was a college student and beginning her student teaching position. With her father’s help, she searched for a car that she could drive back and forth while in school. She chose this Camry, and her father immediately stated that “this car will last a long time”.
“This car will last a long time, you could put a car seat in the back!”
Back in 2012, my Dad and I set out to find a nice used car for me to drive back to Gonzaga for student teaching. Upon purchasing the Camry, my Dad said: “This car will last a long time, you could put a car seat in the back!” My 22-year-old self laughed, but he was pretty accurate in that assessment! This car took me from graduating college to moving to Nashville, TN for graduate school. Upon graduating my friend and I drove the Camry across the country back to Tacoma and I started my job in Seattle. Just a few months later I drove the Camry to meet my now husband for our first date. We’re expecting our first baby this November and fully anticipated fulfilling my dad’s “prophecy” of putting a car seat in my Camry! However, due to our move to Spokane and needing a better car for winter weather, my sweet Camry will be parted with and donated. So many memories in this car – she will be missed!
