Cars for Homes™ helps rebuild the Gulf

From removing forms from the concrete slab to installing the porch header, Rosie August worked alongside new friends as her dream of a new home came closer to completion in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. Through an anonymous, designated donation of a powerboat, Cars for Homes™ sponsored the building of a complete house and energy-saving upgrades to other houses being built by Ginger Ford Habitat for Humanity. Serving Tangipahoa Parish, this affiliate is one of 23 in the Gulf Coast area receiving aid, materials and support through Habitat’s Gulf Recovery Effort.

Cars for Homes™ also brought together volunteers from 10 different states, including employees of corporate partners, to provide the much-needed labor to erect a “home in a box” originally framed by the Kansas City, Missouri, Habitat affiliate. Rosie, a widow, and her four children are now closer to moving into their own decent, affordable home, more than a year after their rented home was condemned after Hurricane Katrina devastated southeastern Louisiana.
