Different Ways to Thank Veterans

Flags of each military branch.

While it is important to thank veterans every day for their service, there are special traditions that take place on Veterans Day in America. Americans observe Veterans Day on November 11th each year. This day is spent honoring all American veterans—living or dead—but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime. Famous traditions include the official wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery, and parades that are held in towns around the country.

If you are unsure about how to support veterans, here are some ways to let them know you’re thinking of them this Veterans Day:

Write a Thank-You letter

In America, there are plenty of veterans that you can express gratitude towards, through a thank-you card. Whether it’s a generic note, or a personalized letter, this action may mean a lot to those who have served. If you don’t know a veteran, you can write a thank you letter to our incredible coworker, Silvana. At Advanced Remarketing Services, we are proud to work alongside veterans and be able to help raise money for military and veteran organizations through our vehicle donation program. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our veteran, Silvana Bucca, for her bravery and service.

Silvana’s Story

“I had the opportunity to serve in the US Army from Oct 2001 till Oct 2009 as a Signal (Communications) Officer. I had grown up in a military family but it wasn’t until I joined that I understood what a special thing it is to serve your country. With September 11th having just happened, it made my time in the Army even more meaningful. When someone says “thank you for your service,” I just want to respond with “No, thank you for allowing me to serve.”

To this day, I believe that joining the military has been the single most important and meaningful decision I have ever made. I became part of a “brotherhood” that allowed me to form bonds with people I would never have had the chance to meet otherwise. I learned more about myself in those few years than I ever have before or since. The time I spent away from family on deployment created memories and friendships that made me stronger, more resilient, and more empathic.

Most important to me, however, has been what I learned from the heartaches I feel every day from the loss of friends who gave their lives protecting their fellow soldiers. Knowing people like that exist is humbling and to be able to call those heroes my friends is extraordinary.”

Donate to an organization that supports veterans

There are many organizations, national and local, that help support veterans. Our company proudly partners with two of the nations’ best, the Green Beret Foundation and the Military Family Advisory Network. Both of these charities support veterans and their families, all across the country. You can make a difference in the lives of veterans through a car donation to either of these programs.

Military Family Advisory Network

MFAN logoThe Military Family Advisory Network was founded by military members and families for military members and families. MFAN’s mission is to be the bridge that connects military members and their families to the resources, people, and information needed to successfully navigate all phases of military life.

All car donations to the Military Family Advisory Network help connect military members and their families to the resources they need to succeed.

Green Beret Foundation

Green Beret Foundation LogoGreen Berets are deployed in over 80 countries and sustain the highest casualty rate in the Special Operations community. The Green Beret Foundation (GBF) provides U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers and their families with emergency, immediate, and ongoing support.
