American Cancer Society Car Donation Review

“It was the best vehicle I have ever owned and I will miss the [Mighty Mazda]. But knowing that it may help in some way in the fight against cancer puts a smile on my face.”

This past week a 1984 Mazda B2000 pickup was donated to the American Cancer Society.

The truck was not in running condition and is likely headed for the scrap pile. However, in its day, it was a force to be reckoned with. The Mighty Mazda indeed.

I was the proud owner for almost 40 years and well over 300,000 miles. Together, we explored, hiked, fished, and had adventures all over Colorado, Wyoming, and the Rocky Mountain West.

It hauled lumber, building supplies, landscape materials, trash, recyclables, and people on a regular basis. It never let me down, and even “drove itself” down the road one time when I had gotten out to check out a potential fishing spot and left it in neutral! Luckily, no harm was done, but I did learn that you can run pretty fast in chest waders when properly motivated…
LIke all of us, it did start to show its age along the way. It sprouted up rust holes along the sides of the bed. Rather than fix them, my nieces, nephews, and some of my students, (I taught elementary physical education for over 36 years), volunteered some of their old stuffed animals to fill in the holes. It got a lot of attention and smiles at intersections and motoring down the road.

Sadly, it has been out of service for a few years now, so I contacted the American Cancer Society about donating it. It was the best vehicle I have ever owned and I will miss the MM. But knowing that it may help in some way in the fight against cancer puts a smile on my face.

Thank You, Scott!

Oli’s 2010 Honda Insight Donated to March of Dimes

This was my first ever car that I got while in college. I planned to buy a cheap, used car with my savings but my mom surprised me by chipping in a bunch to help me get a new car. I named her Eustace and she carried me the 6+ hours to and from college for every vacation. She witnessed first love, graduation, and moved to the big city with me. She was tough, facing blazing summers, snow plows burying her for days, and alternate side parking. She drove my fiancee and I to our first house and then our wedding. She came and went to the NICU dozens of times until our beautiful baby was ready to come home months later. I was so nervous driving with our baby in the back seat for the first time, but Eustace was as steady and reliable as ever. She’s retired from our family now, but can hopefully still do some good for others.
