“The time had come for me to let my car go, so I decided to donate it to WNPR in Meriden, CT.“
I ordered my Dodge in 2006 and picked it up in January of 2007. It served me for 15 years (137k miles). This was the first car that I owned that I could control the radio from the steering wheel. When the car was new and the granddaughters were 5 and 6 years old, I would let them think that they could control the stations and the volume on my “magic radio” by yelling at it from the back seat. “Radio, change station!”. “Radio, louder!”. They could not see me controlling the radio from the steering wheel. It would always work for them, but when I tried yelling at it, the radio “didn’t listen” to me. I would pretend to be upset that it was my car, but it would only listen to them. The girls really got a kick out of this! Anyway, the time had come for me to let my car go, so I decided to donate it to WNPR in Meriden, CT. As I watched my Dodge being taken away, I felt a little like “Al Bundy” when he held a funeral for his Dodge (actually was a Plymouth). Goodbye ol’ buddy! (sniff).

This was my first ever car that I got while in college. I planned to buy a cheap, used car with my savings but my mom surprised me by chipping in a bunch to help me get a new car. I named her Eustace and she carried me the 6+ hours to and from college for every vacation. She witnessed first love, graduation, and moved to the big city with me. She was tough, facing blazing summers, snow plows burying her for days, and alternate side parking. She drove my fiancee and I to our first house and then our wedding. She came and went to the NICU dozens of times until our beautiful baby was ready to come home months later. I was so nervous driving with our baby in the back seat for the first time, but Eustace was as steady and reliable as ever. She’s retired from our family now, but can hopefully still do some good for others.
