Marketplace is part of American Public Media, a producer and distributor of award-winning public radio programming and podcasts. Marketplace reaches 14 million listeners each week on more than 800 public radio stations nationwide. Marketplace covers business and the economy in ways that everyone can understand, not just Wall Street. In 1989, Marketplace founders decided to produce the program from the West Coast, away from the traditional center of financial journalism in New York. Marketplace aims to raise the economic intelligence of all Americans by focusing on geographic diversity in its reporting. That includes bureaus in New York and Washington, D.C., and journalists working remotely throughout the country and abroad.

Frequently Asked Questions
What types of vehicles does Marketplace accept?
We gratefully accept almost all car donations. We also accept donated trucks, motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles, trailers and recreational vehicles. Boats and planes may require a call to see if they meet minimum criteria. You can donate your car online or by calling us at 1-877-215-0227.
How much of the money from the sale of my vehicle is returned to Marketplace?
Donating a car or other vehicle to charity can be a confusing decision. Many charity car donation programs promise to help the charities but are run by third-party processors that return very little to the charity. Our partners at Car Donation Wizard return 75-80% of the gross selling price for car donations back to Marketplace, the highest of any vehicle donation program! View our car donation tips for more info on how to maximize your charitable vehicle donation.
What documentation will be provided for my tax return?
Within 30 days of the sale of your vehicle, you will receive an email with a receipt that includes: The gross selling price of your car, if sold for greater than $500. If your car sells for $500 or less, you can deduct $500 or your car’s fair market value, whichever is less. Vehicle year, make, model, and VIN. A statement that the vehicle was sold at arms-length between two unrelated parties. A statement that no good or services were received in return for your donation.
