Vehicle Donation Program

By donating your vehicle to KSJD, you are supporting your favorite public radio stations so they can continue providing the listening experience you love. KSJD proudly partners with the Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program to support the programming you love. With your car donation, you’re not only allowing KSJD to flourish but you are also getting rid of your unwanted vehicle at no expense AND receiving a tax deduction. Click here to start your KSJD car donation or call us at 1-877-215-0227!

KSJD’s mission is to “inform, entertain, and empower” individuals through news, culture, art, and more. KSJD generously supports the Four Corners Region of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah and build trust and relationships with those they serve. As a 501-C3 non-profit organization, KSJD relies on donations from dedicated listeners, businesses, and grants to continue its work.

How to Donate Your Car to KSJD

Step 1: Answer Vehicle Questions

Fill out the donation form to provide KSJD with information about your vehicle donation, including the year, make, model, VIN, and condition.

Step 2: Schedule Free Pick Up

Provide us with information about yourself and where the car will be picked up. A towing agent will reach out to you within 24-48 business hours to schedule a pick up time most convenient for you.

Step 3: Track Your Car Donation

After you submit your vehicle donation, you will receive a confirmation email with access to your Donor Console. From your Donor Console, you can track your car donation in real-time, submit documents, and get title and tax information. After your car is sold, you’ll receive a confirmation email that includes a tax deductible receipt.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of vehicles can I donate?

KSJD gratefully accept almost all car donations. We also accept donated trucks, motorcycles, boats, snowmobiles, trailers and recreational vehicles. Boats and planes may require a call to see if they meet minimum criteria. You can donate your car online or by calling us at 1-877-215-0227.

How should I prepare for pick up?

You should remove all personal items from your vehicle and have your keys and signed title ready upon the tow driver’s arrival. We do ask that your car have at least two inflated tires and be in a tow-accessible location, such as a driveway or on the street.

What documents do I need to donate my car?

You’ll need a clear title in order to complete your car donation. If you had a lien on the vehicle, you’ll also need to provide a lien release document. If you can’t find your title, you’ll have to obtain a duplicate from your state. Click here to find instructions on how to sign your title.

Should I remove my license plates?

It depends on the state. Some states will have you remove it, while others require it to stay on the vehicle. Click here to find your state’s license plate requirements.

How much of the money from the sale of my vehicle is returned to KSJD?

Donating a car or other vehicle to charity can be a confusing decision. Many charity car donation programs promise to help the charities but are run by third-party processors that return very little to the charity. Our partners at Advanced Remarketing Services return at least 70% of the gross selling price for car donations, the highest of any vehicle donation program! View our car donation tips for more info on how to maximize your charitable vehicle donation.

Will I receive a tax receipt?

Within 30 days of the sale of your vehicle, you will receive an email with a tax receipt that includes:

  • The gross selling price of your car, if sold for greater than $500. When itemizing taxes, if your car sells for $500 or less, you can deduct $500 or your car’s fair market value, whichever is less.
  • Vehicle year, make, model, and VIN.
  • A statement that the vehicle was sold at arms-length between two unrelated parties.
  • A statement that no good or services were received in return for your donation.
