Today, my car donation is scheduled for pickup. My brand loyalty to Honda is second only to my loyalty to NPR. I have loved and will miss this wonderful, reliable car. Switched to the Civic from an SUV back in 2007-2008, when gas prices increased. My kids were aging out of the need to accommodate trikes and carseats, so I down-sized to a Civic and enjoyed the increase in fuel economy. This car saw my kids through college, and carried me on numerous roundtrips to Chicago to see family. This is my first time donating a car. I hope it provides a significant advantage to the station, or a family, or whatever is done with it. I don’t have the time or energy to sell it, and am happier to see it go toward an organization I care so much about. She needs some work, but runs great, and has remote start installed. She was loved well, maintained regularly at the dealership. She will be missed.

This was my first ever car that I got while in college. I planned to buy a cheap, used car with my savings but my mom surprised me by chipping in a bunch to help me get a new car. I named her Eustace and she carried me the 6+ hours to and from college for every vacation. She witnessed first love, graduation, and moved to the big city with me. She was tough, facing blazing summers, snow plows burying her for days, and alternate side parking. She drove my fiancee and I to our first house and then our wedding. She came and went to the NICU dozens of times until our beautiful baby was ready to come home months later. I was so nervous driving with our baby in the back seat for the first time, but Eustace was as steady and reliable as ever. She’s retired from our family now, but can hopefully still do some good for others.
