Habitat for Humanity Car Donation Review
“When we decided to donate her, we knew it would be to Habitat for Humanity – Cars for Homes.”
Hi, I recently donated my 2004 Toyota Highlander and I wanted to share my car story. A car is just a thing, but a thing tied with so many moments of your life. I was so proud of buying this car myself right after I took a leap of faith and moved across the country for residency. I was still proud to drive this car, tape deck and all (even when my brother informed me that my niece’s Power Wheels was better equipped)!
This was the car my dog, Hershey, jumped into when I think we both decided he was meant to be mine. My husband, Alex, walked me to this car at the end of our date and kissed me for the first time. I drove away in this car from another early date thinking “Wow, I could marry this guy”. This was the car I drove home from the doctors with a balloon to tell Alex I was officially pregnant. I’m thankful our last full ride was driving around with our dog looking at Christmas lights. And I’m thankful for all the moments in between.
I always said I’d drive this car until I couldn’t anymore and I did. When we decided to donate her, we knew it would be to Habitat for Humanity – Cars for Homes. Alex and I have both volunteered with Habitat, an organization we are proud to suport. Alex leads a work site for Habitat at Camp Linn Haven in Newland, NC each year and this past year we were able to serve together. It wasn’t easy to say goodbye to our car, but we are glad she will be used to help others.I always said I’d drive this car until I couldn’t anymore and I did. Thank You, Amanda!

This was my first ever car that I got while in college. I planned to buy a cheap, used car with my savings but my mom surprised me by chipping in a bunch to help me get a new car. I named her Eustace and she carried me the 6+ hours to and from college for every vacation. She witnessed first love, graduation, and moved to the big city with me. She was tough, facing blazing summers, snow plows burying her for days, and alternate side parking. She drove my fiancee and I to our first house and then our wedding. She came and went to the NICU dozens of times until our beautiful baby was ready to come home months later. I was so nervous driving with our baby in the back seat for the first time, but Eustace was as steady and reliable as ever. She’s retired from our family now, but can hopefully still do some good for others.
