Donate Your Car to Support the Greater Boston Food Bank

by | Jan 20, 2026 | Charity Spotlight

Supporting the Greater Boston Food Bank often starts with food donations or monetary gifts—but the work of ending hunger requires more than what happens at the table. Donating a car allows you to support the systems and solutions behind the scenes, helping sustain the infrastructure and innovation that power GBFB’s mission.

Your unused vehicle becomes flexible funding that helps provide healthy meals, expand community partnerships, and advocate for a hunger-free Eastern Massachusetts, all while potentially qualifying you for a tax deduction.

Supporting the Work Behind Every Meal

The Greater Boston Food Bank’s impact goes far beyond food distribution alone. Together with donors, volunteers, and partners, GBFB is building a healthier, more resilient food system. The organization believes access to nutritious food is a human right and that addressing hunger requires both immediate action and long-term investment

Turning Vehicles Into Lasting Impact

Because GBFB operates with a strong commitment to efficiency and cost-effectiveness, donated vehicles go a long way. Proceeds from car donations support programs that prioritize nutrition, scale impact, and respond to evolving community needs.

Every three dollars donated to GBFB helps provide two nutritious meals, including fresh produce, proteins, and dairy. Last year alone, thanks to generous supporters, the Greater Boston Food Bank distributed more than 107 million pounds of healthy food, the equivalent of nearly 90 million meals across Eastern Massachusetts. And with the average car donation grossing $1160, that’s a significant boost for their mission.

Why a Car Donation Is Different

Donating a car supports GBFB in a way that’s both practical and powerful. It transforms an underused asset into flexible funding—resources that can be directed where they’re needed most, whether that’s food sourcing, infrastructure, advocacy, or community programs.

It also removes common barriers to giving. There’s no need to coordinate drop-offs or storage, and there’s no cost to you. The vehicle pickup is free, the process is straightforward, and you receive a tax receipt once your donation is complete.

How to Donate Your Car to the Greater Boston Food Bank

Donating a vehicle is simple and rewarding. GBFB’s car donation program is processed by its authorized agent, Advanced Remarketing Services, and can be completed in three easy steps.

1. Provide Vehicle Information

Complete the online donation form with basic details about your vehicle, including the VIN, year, make, model, mileage, and condition.

2. Schedule a Free Pickup

Within two to three business days, a local towing company will contact you to arrange a convenient pickup time. Towing is always free.

3. Receive Your Tax Receipt

After your vehicle is sold, you will receive an email acknowledgment and access to a donor dashboard. Once the sale is complete, you will receive a tax receipt for your records.
