National Children’s Day is annually celebrated on the second Sunday in June. The day was started in 1856 by Reverend Dr. Charles Leonard of the Universalist Church of the Redeemer in Chelsea, Massachusetts to baptize children. It was originally named Rose Day and became National Children’s Day in 1995 when President Clinton proclaimed National Children’s Day as October 8th. In 2001, President Bush declared the first Sunday in June as National Children’s Day. Despite this, the day is generally celebrated on the second Sunday in June or on October 8th.
