June 8 is World Oceans Day, an annual global event intended to celebrate the major role the ocean plays in our lives and inspire action to protect our oceans. The purpose of Oceans Day is to inform the public of the impact of human actions on the ocean, develop a worldwide movement for the ocean, and unite the world on a project for the sustainable management of our oceans.

- The ocean produces at least 50% of the world’s oxygen.
- Around 40 million people will be employed by ocean-related industries by 2030.
