The owners purchased this Volkswagen Beetle new in 1974 when it was time for the donor’s father to buy her first car and she immediately fell in love with it. She could not dream of getting rid of this car as it carried her into her marriage where she eventually gave it to her son. It became part of the family as it was passed on to the next generation. The VW has been through a lot in its years, being patched and repaired and the motor being rebuild in the mid 90’s, but she kept kicking. After the donor’s college years, the beetle was used for local travel until she was finally covered and it was time for a new home.

                 VW bug

This specific Volkswagen Beetle model was considered the super beetle or super bug becoming the fourth generation of beetles to be produced. A super beetle is two inches longer than a standard beetle, with this the spare tire does not get in the way of storage as much, giving more room for luggage because it was stored in the front cargo area. This model was also equipped with a 1600, 4 – cylinder, air-cooled engine that had the ability to generate 58 horsepower. It came with four-wheel independent suspension, which was not common at the time, and a flow-through ventilation system. By the time this model had been released to the public, the VW Bug had already gained an insane amount of popularity worldwide reach a record of 15 million sold.

The ’74 VW was donated to Habitat for Humanity’s Cars for Homes program, where it will help provide safe and affordable housing for a family in the donor’s community. Car Donation Wizard will return 75-80% of the gross proceeds from the sale of your vehicle to your local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.
