When I went into labor, I couldn’t find any of my backups to watch my other children. We all piled into the SUV to go to the hospital. It was pouring raining and my only thought was “please don’t let this baby be born in my new car.” While my grandmother was searching to find someone to meet us at the hospital to get our other two children, my husband was speeding through the pouring rain, like Mario Andretti, to fulfill my request (of not letting our child be born in my car). My SUV got us safely to the hospital (of course my husband did too) with 2 centimeters to spare. The doctor missed delivering my baby because his wife told him to drive safely in the rain. Maybe if he had my GMC, the Intern wouldn’t have delivered my son.
The donors hope the proceeds from the sale of the GMC will bring a family as much joy to their home as the vehicle brought to their family.
