Most of the vehicle donations that we receive and feature on our blog are rare or unusual, but still factory-assembled. Not this time. This car, donated through the American Cancer Society’s Cars for a Cure program, has a more handmade history than the typical auto.

This hand-assembled vehicle is a replica of the MG TD, a convertible that was manufactured from 1949-1953. MG is a British manufacturer that has been producing iconic vehicles since 1924. The MG TD was marketed specifically towards North America. At the time, postwar Britain had less spending power than the booming US economy. In order to sell this model on our side of the pond, they needed to make a few key changes to the sports car’s design. First, of course, they needed to move the driver’s side from the right to the left side of the car! Cosmetically they updated the earlier model as well, changing the wheel covers from solid to slotted.

Although this car is assembled from the parts of this early sports car, it was actually assembled in 1984. Classic car enthusiasts can purchase “kit cars,” which are unassembled vehicles, delivered along with an instruction manual. It’s a great way to get a classic car without classically high mileage!

Handmade Donation to Charity with Heart: American Cancer Society

After being driven barely 1600 miles, this vehicle was donated to the American Cancer Society to fund the fight against cancer. The American Cancer Society is one of the most trusted charities in the US.

The American Cancer Society works to provide invaluable services to comfort and care for cancer patients and their families. There are over 250 ACS offices across the US, which means you are never far from support. They fund cutting-edge research to prevent and treat cancer. Since 1946, they’ve invested $4.8 billion into critical cancer research. ACS has funded over 8.5 million free rides to bring cancer patients to and from treatment.

Since 1991, they’ve averted 2.4 million cancer deaths.

The American Cancer Society is serious about fighting cancer, and they can’t do it alone. We make supporting the American Cancer Society easy, through our Cars for a Cure vehicle donation program.
